Michael Anastassiades is known for objects defined by what they leave out. His work for FLOS — the Arrangements chandelier, the IC Lights series, the String Lights — shares a discipline: the form is reduced until only the essential gesture remains. My Spot, originally designed for the My Circuit system, follows the same logic. What’s interesting is what happened next. The fixture grew beyond the system it was made for, becoming a recurring piece of vocabulary across FLOS Architectural’s lighting work.
My Circuit: drawing with light
My Circuit is the first indoor lighting system built around a flexible profile. Where most track systems force the designer into straight runs and right angles, My Circuit lets the line on the ceiling be drawn — combining straight sections with curves of any radius, in continuous, unbroken paths.
Anastassiades has described the inspiration as electric slot-car sets from his childhood — a playful approach to modularity, translated into a contemporary, minimalist take on the plaster ceiling motifs of period interiors. The fixings concatenate like track sections; once the central spine is installed, the flexible profile is inserted into it, and the fixtures hang from there.
The fixture family is entirely Anastassiades’s: My Spot for accent work, My Light Shadow Spot for technical accent (with FLOS’s patented dual-focus lens), My Disc for ambient downlight, My Lines for a vertical floor-to-ceiling presence, My Dome for classic pendant downlight, and My Sphere for omnidirectional emission. Each carries his signature restraint — none competes with the curve of the track itself.
My Spot beyond My Circuit
My Spot has since outgrown its origin. The fixture is now also available as a recessed spotlight and a surface-mounted version, allowing direct architectural integration without My Circuit’s track at all. It appears as part of the Zero Track Pro module range. And it has been expanded — two body sizes, two stem lengths, sophisticated metallic finishes alongside the original whites and blacks.
Technically, it’s refined. Dual-focus lens technology produces uniform illumination with minimised glare. The spotlight swivels and tilts for precise direction, and the connection arm sits perfectly flush with the body when the fixture is in downlight position — preserving the clean line Anastassiades is known for, even in operation.
What makes My Spot interesting is how the same fixture reads differently across contexts. Suspended from a My Circuit curve, it feels playful, almost mobile-like. Recessed into a ceiling, it disappears into the architecture. Surface-mounted, it reads as a discrete sculptural object. The form doesn’t change — what changes is the system around it.
Designed to inhabit many contexts
This is what Anastassiades’s restraint actually produces. Not invisibility — My Spot has presence — but a kind of formal generosity. An object reduced enough to belong wherever a designer needs it.
